    The Secrets of Film Distribution

At the age of 22, AJ Martinson set out to write, direct, shoot, edit and sell his own full-length feature film. After writing the screenplay in three months, AJ raised enough funds through friends, family and investors to start a 3-week shoot on his film, a Cold War thriller then titled Red Fish, Blue Fish. From the time he was 17, AJ took any and every job available that gave him experience, from working at Clint Eastwood’s Malpaso Productions to being Associate Producer on the hit unscripted series Divine Intervention to being the editor and cinematographer on projects like Walt – The Man Behind The Myth, the official Walt Disney biopic. In 2016, AJ was invited to screen the rough cut of Red Fish, Blue Fish at Story Expo to give attendees an inside look into the filmmaking process. In 2017, AJ sold his film to Bleiberg Entertainment who retitled the movie as Blackmark, and sold and distributed the film worldwide very profitably.

AJ returns to Story Expo as an accomplished filmmaker to give you the truth and inside story as to the myths and realities of selling your first feature film. AJ says, “Keep in mind, I was turned down by every major film festival. And then I turned around and made a great distribution deal.” The Secrets of Film Distribution will cover AJ’s story, covering the basics of distribution: territories and windows, agents, sales agents, producers reps and how to get in contact with the right people, as well as touching on final deliverables and how to budget for them.
