    Sequence, Proposition & Plot

Jeff Kitchen teaches a high-intensity 90 minute training program in his three-step process called Sequence, Proposition & Plot. This is a powerful plot construction technique that development execs from all the major Hollywood studios consistently call the most advanced development tool in the film industry. Systematically build your script from its core out, gradually layering in that which is necessary and leaving out that which is not needed by working backwards from the end, creating a tight chain of cause and effect. This is a technically rigorous and demanding process that enables you to wrest order out of the necessary explosive chaos of creative story development. Working with reverse cause and effect to create a tight story, building two-sided conflict to the point of no return, balanced opposition, directed audience sympathy, central audience question, and a recursive process that gradually develops detail as it becomes necessary—you get dynamic control of your material, while it simultaneously continues to surprise. One of Jeff’s students was recently nominated for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscars for his film, Hidden Figures.
