    Screenwriting – The First Act

This 90 minute course guides students through the basic process of executing a step outline for a feature film — with the major emphasis placed on the dynamics and essentials required for creating a powerful and effective first act. Focus will be placed on act one script grammar, including the necessity for understanding and articulating the dramatic idea, question or problem that the rest of the script needs in order to develop. Setting up compelling characters, dramatic elements, plot, theme and tone will be explored as well as providing methods and techniques for creating an act one that will both compel readers and supply a rich launching pad to propel one’s entire story. Time will be allotted for fielding various questions.
