Podcasting: How To Craft Your Stories

Podcasting is one of the quickest growing outlets for content creation.  At the Sept. 2019 Story Expo in LA, an executive from Warner Bros.’ digital platform Blue Ribbon Content said that podcasts are now one of their leading avenues for finding new talent, new writers, and new storytellers to work with to develop new film, TV and digital projects with. With smartphones, laptops and iPads now, anyone can create a podcast on a shoestring budget and post it on a variety of platforms to build an audience.

While some podcasts can be focused on short scripts, other podcasts might be focused on interviews. Both have the goal of telling great stories. But in interview-based podcasts it is easy to ask questions without getting to the story behind the answers.  How do you prepare and craft an interview-based show to go beyond the questions and answers asked on every other show?   How do you dive into the deeper story that your guests can offer?  In this presentation, you will learn: how to craft a flow that facilitates storytelling, how to take interviews to a new level by incorporating and crafting the stories of your guests, how to listen to hidden prompts from your guests that show there is more to the story, what to ask to get your guests to tell the deeper story, how to research and prepare for your podcasts, and how the stories you tell can engage your audience in new ways.
