    3-Act Structure: Breaking The Rules

The late, great legendary Syd Field said all stories have 3 acts – a beginning, a middle and an end. Maybe just not necessarily in that order. Since then, writers and teachers have both taken sides – those in favor of three act structure, those adamantly opposed to it. But the truth is, 3-act structure is the basis of all storytelling. You have to understand the basics of structure – which 3-act structure is – before you can expand on it, or even break its rules. In this course you’ll learn the truths and myths behind 3-act structure: what it is, how to utilize it, why it’s so important, and why it’s important to go beyond it. You can’t break the rules until you know the rules.
